Two weekends ago, my family and I traveled to Whitefish, Montana. This was one of the best ski trips I have ever taken and although we were slightly in the middle of nowhere, the town was great and the skiing was incredible! The mountain had amazing tree runs, fresh with soft powder, and as long as you avoided the tree wells, it was perfect. The views were also amazing, from a single chair lift you could look out at the entire town and lake.
The ski runs were crazy, skiing in and out of trees down fresh powder and over moguls and jumps. Some of the great runs were Elephants, First Creek, and Windowpane, all with amazing skiing and views. The top of the mountain was always covered in a thick white fog, making it tricky to see where the ground was but after that, it was mostly clear skies, where you could see on for miles.
The town of Whitefish is very small yet cute and charming. You will have better luck cooking at home, since the restaurants are not exactly known for their food. There are still a couple of great places, like the creperie we went to on our last morning. I ordered a Nutella banana crepe and it was delicious, made right at the counter, and the perfect thing before skiing.
While I was there, I ate the best pie I have ever eaten, from Lula's. It was peach huckleberry and tasted as good as it looked. The crust was buttery and flaky, matching perfectly with the sweet fruit. It was so good, we brought one to take home before we left Montana.
